Springville Reservoir
Springville Reservoir
The Calleguas Municipal Water District contracted Cushman to improve their existing 18 million gallon underground water reservoir. The project involved separating the tanks by building a 358’ long by 26’ high divider wall and various other seismic upgrades to add strength and flexibility. 120,000 square feet of earth cover was removed from the reservoirs and cellular concrete was placed to reduce the load on the roof. A significant challenge to the project was the construction of two outlet structures which were 37’ deep and below the bottom of the reservoir. To protect the existing reservoir in place, soldier piles and lagging were installed to shore the excavations. The structures contain 36” and 48” flexible joints to improve seismic safety to this important infrastructure.
